Presenting the Flag Challenge Coin

Present of the Flag Challenge Coin. This Coin is 1.75 diameter or 44mm. The presenting of the flag, also called presenting of the colors, is a ceremonial act of honor and respect in various contexts, particularly within the military. During a military funeral, the flag drapes the casket, symbolizing the service and sacrifice of the deceased veteran. The ceremonial folding of the flag, which results in a triangular shape reminiscent of the tricorn hats worn by the Patriots during the American Revolution, is a poignant tribute to the veteran's commitment to the nation. Each of the thirteen folds holds symbolic meaning, from life and eternal life to honor and remembrance of veterans. The flag is then presented to the next of kin as a token of appreciation for the veteran's service. This tradition is a deeply meaningful aspect of military honors, reflecting the nation's gratitude and reverence for those who have served.

The back reads: Once a U.S. Flag is lifted from casket, it is tilted down in front of the casket to block the view. The Flag is then held up for everyone to see and Taps is then played softly in the distance. This is referred to as, "Presenting the Colors." Tradition holds that at this time the fighting spirit of the Veteran then enters the Flag. Once the Flag has been folded, both the Flag and the Veteran are formally "Retired" forever.
